Town of Tradition Honored for Landscape Architecture
Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects Honors Tradition Square for its Pedestrian Environment
TRADITION, Fla. (July 10, 2008) Tradition Square, the 23-acre, 135,000 square foot retail/office mixed-use development that serves as the town center for the Tradition community, was awarded a 2008 Merit Award in the commercial category by the Florida Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). The award recognizes the Square's unique pedestrian environment and role in the community, creating a small town ambience where people love to gather.
Core Communities and Canin Associates, the project's landscape architect, collaborated to create a "great people place" that uses landscape architecture, urban design and architecture to promote walkability and a wide range of community activities and services that serve the needs of Tradition and achieve an immediate sense of place. "As the heart of our community, Tradition Square is aesthetically designed to promote connectivity," said Shawn Reilly, vice president of marketing for Tradition developer Core Communities. "To be honored by such a prestigious organization as the ASLA means our vision of a family-friendly town center is succeeding. A resident doesn't have to leave the neighborhood to enjoy the abundance of lakes, parks, shops and events traditionally offered by densely populated cities."
Set alongside picturesque Lake Tradition, Tradition Square offers a wide range of amenities for residents and neighboring communities with seasonal festivals, events and concerts. A formal town green, a performance pavilion, a promenade and an interactive children's fountain accent the town's variety of shops, restaurants and retail offices, creating the perfect gathering place for local residents and guests.
The ASLA is the national professional association representing landscape architects. Founded in 1899, the ASLA consists of more than 18,000 members, 48 chapters and represents all 50 states. The Florida Chapter ASLA 2008 Design Awards recognizes landscape architectural professionals in Florida in their pursuit to lead, educate and create a difference in the careful stewardship, wise planning and artful design of our built and natural environments.
